Deliciously fudgy Halloween brownies that are customizable and fun to decorate, perfect for celebrating the spooky season.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅔ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 (10 ounce) packages Ghirardelli Melting Wafers (dark or white), melted
  • 2 (1 ounce) packages candy eyes
  • 1 package jet-puffed marshmallows (for Ghost Brownies)
  • ½ cup chocolate jimmie sprinkles (for “Cousin It” Brownies)
  • ½ cup assorted Halloween sprinkles (for Spooky Brownies)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish by lining it with parchment paper or nonstick aluminum foil.
  2. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Whisk until combined and set aside.
  4. Combine the eggs, egg yolk, sugar, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl. Whisk until combined, then gradually stir in the melted butter.
  5. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  6. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  7. Cool the brownies in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  8. Cut the brownies into squares and decorate with melted Ghirardelli wafers, candy eyes, marshmallows, or sprinkles.

Notes

Don’t overmix the batter to keep the brownies fudgy. Use quality cocoa for the best flavor.
