Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • Olive oil (for brushing)
  • Sea salt (for finishing, optional)
  • Fresh herbs (like rosemary or thyme, optional)
  • Black olives or sun-dried tomatoes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons of salt, and 2 teaspoons of instant yeast. Stir well.
  2. Add water: Pour in 1 ¼ cups of warm water. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Let it rise: Cover the bowl and allow it to rise for about 2 hours, until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the dough: Turn the risen dough out onto a floured surface and stretch it into a rectangle about 1/2-inchthick. Cut out a ghost shape.
  5. Create eyes and mouth: Cut out two eye shapes and a mouth in the dough.
  6. Preheat the oven: Preheat to 450°F (230°C) about 30 minutes before baking.
  7. Transfer and season: Move the shaped dough to parchment paper. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with toppings.
  8. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool: Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Ensure the dough is wet for a tender crumb. Avoid rushing the rising time for the best texture.
