Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
4 cups powdered sugar
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-4 tablespoons heavy cream
Candy eyeballs (optional)
Gummy worms (optional)
Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your cake pans to ensure easy removal after baking.
Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
Mix the all-purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl until evenly combined.
Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, and mix until smooth.
Incorporate the boiling water into the batter until well combined; the batter will be thin.
Divide the batter between the two prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Beat the softened butter in a medium bowl until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Mix until smooth, then add vanilla extract and heavy cream to achieve desired consistency.
Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a serving plate and spreading frosting on top before adding the second layer and frosting the entire cake.
Decorate the cake with candy eyeballs, gummy worms, and sprinkles to create a festive design.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Hints for creativity are encouraged with decorations!
