This delicious brisket recipe is tender, flavorful, and perfect for gatherings, embodying the heart of Southern cooking.

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs Beef brisket flat, trimmed to leave a 1/4-inch fat cap
  • 3 tbsp Coarse black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp Smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup Beef broth
  • 1 tsp Liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp Sea salt flakes for finishing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the brisket by preheating your oven to 300°F (150°C) and placing it in a large roasting pan, fatty side up.
  2. Mix the rub by combining black pepper, kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and dark brown sugar in a bowl.
  3. Apply the rub generously to the brisket, ensuring an even coating.
  4. Prepare the cooking liquid by mixing beef broth with liquid smoke and pouring it around the brisket without washing off the rub.
  5. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 5 hours or until fork-tender.
  6. Rest the brisket for about 30 minutes before slicing against the grain.

Notes

Choose high-quality meat and avoid rushing the cooking process for the best results. Allow the brisket to rest properly for maximum juiciness.
