A flavorful and easy-to-make homemade doner kebab, perfect for family dinners or gatherings, featuring tender marinated meat and customizable toppings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lamb or beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita or flatbreads
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Combine grated onion, minced garlic, yogurt, olive oil, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl to create the marinade.
  3. Marinate the meat in the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes or ideally overnight.
  4. Spread the marinated meat evenly on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the meat is cooked through and crispy.
  6. Remove the meat from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes, and then slice into bite-sized pieces.
  7. Fill your pita or flatbreads with the sliced meat and add toppings of your choice.

Notes

Thinly sliced meat cooks quicker and enhances marination. Allowing the meat to rest after baking keeps it juicy.
