Zombie Cookies are a fun and festive treat perfect for Halloween gatherings, combining buttery cookie flavor with vibrant royal icing designs.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 6 tablespoons water (adjust as needed)
  • Food coloring (Electric Green, Electric Pink, Red Red, and Super Black)
  • Jumbo candy eyes
  • Red food coloring pen (optional)
  • Disposable decorating bags
  • Couplers and decorating tips (sizes 2, 3, and 4)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cookie dough: In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla. Gradually add dry ingredients to form a dough and chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Roll and cut the cookies: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into 2-inch circles. Bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden, then cool on wire rack.
  3. Prepare the royal icing: Combine powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water, beating until smooth. Divide and tint with food coloring.
  4. Get ready for decorating: Prepare icing bags with tips; adjust green icing’s consistency for piping.
